YouTube , the video sharing platform owned by Google , has recently started to silently implement a new type of advertising, effective as of September 2022. YouTube users who do not subscribe to YouTube Premium now receive up to 5 ads that they must watch before their videos start .
The news broke when several free YouTubers started complaining on Twitter and Reddit that they were getting 5 ads instead of 2 before watching YouTube videos. These users stated that they received 5 non-skippable ads prior to a video watching session as opposed to skippable ads, which caused a great reaction among users .

YouTube Confirms New Ad Type
Regarding the issue, YouTube acknowledged the situation on Twitter and stated that the new 5 ad problems could happen to YouTube users with the company’s new ad type. As explained by YouTube, these are short-form ads on the platform that are usually 6 seconds long and unfortunately cannot be skipped .
Currently not all free YouTubers experience the “5 ads before video starts” status, so YouTube is obviously testing this on some users only.
