As you know, Riot Games is one of the biggest game companies operating in our country. We can say that Hasan Çolakoğlu is one of the biggest shareholders in this success of the company, which is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Turkey office opened in 2012. Since its openingRiot GamesWorking as Turkey Country Manager for many years, Çolakoğlu was transferred to Riot Games’ headquarters in Los Angeles in 2016. Hasan Çolakoğlu, who is the global vice president of the company, made some statements about the player community in Turkey. His explanations are as follows:
Hasan Çolakoğlu: “We created a permanent gaming community in Turkey
Turkish players could only play pirated versions of many popular games in the early 2000s. Because the big publishers and distribution companies were ignoring this passionate audience who wanted to play their games. In 2012, global game company Riot Games entered the Turkish market with the game League of Legends. Investments made over the years have been combined with the passion of Turkish players and today Turkey has become one of the most important players in the gaming and esports market in the global arena.
Hasan Çolakoğlu, who served as the General Manager of Nintendo Turkey for 7 years, moved to Riot Games in 2012 and opened the company’s 6th office in the world in Istanbul. Riot Games, the company that invests the most in games and esports in Turkey, celebrates its 10th anniversary in our country this year.
Stating that they focused on providing the best service in this field to Turkish players during the localization of the game, Hasan Çolakoğlu said, “There was no example of such a service at that time. What we did was the kind of things that players had never encountered before, and we got the reward right away. LoL grew rapidly to become the biggest game in Turkey. and it became esports.” said.
“Before I debuted in Turkey in League of Legends 2012, I came up with the idiosyncratic idea of not working with outside player support specialists. I said, ‘We’re 30 Rioters here and I want all of us to better understand what players are going through.’ “Everyone was answering 20-30 player tickets a day, along with their normal work. We were asked about everything from account transfers between servers to problems with the “Tribunal” (player arbitration) system that was active at the time. I don’t think anything like this has been attempted anywhere else in Riot’s history.”
The office, which consisted of only Hasan Çolakoğlu at first, grew to 30 people when the game was released in Turkey, and to 60 people in time. On the one hand, while the office was growing, on the other hand, Riot Games was growing. It was time to make changes to reflect the growing company and player base.
In 2016, Çolakoğlu moved to Riot’s headquarters in Los Angeles and became the general manager of emerging markets. Many countries from Brazil to Turkey, from Russia to Mexico were included in the emerging markets. Although the cultures and communities in these countries were different, their acting experiences were quite similar. Çolakoğlu said, “All of the players are players after all. We may encounter difficulties arising from different languages or governments, but when you compare the experience of players in Vietnam and Turkey playing games in an internet cafe, they are actually the same.” made the statement.
Emphasizing that he still has a ton of work to be done, Çolakoğlu said; “We place more emphasis on our publishing efforts than ever before so that all gamers can get the most out of our on-the-go gaming and entertainment products. That means we fill all of our office positions with new passionate Rioters. We continue to open new offices to bring Rioters closer to players in their region. So we are always changing the way our company runs business so that our offices in Turkey, Brazil, Japan or another country we consider home work together to make the player experience their top priority.” said.
