Apple ; It made an announcement saying that you really should update your iPhone, iPad or Mac as soon as possible because the latest software update fixes some major serious security vulnerabilities .
The security notes for iOS/iPadOS 15.6.1 and macOS 12.5.1 mention fixes for bugs in the operating system’s kernel (the core that basically controls everything) and WebKit that could allow attackers to run malicious code on your device. The notes also warn that the bugs may have been actively exploited .
There have been 13 updates to iOS 15 since its initial release, and nine of them fixed some sort of random code execution bug. Often times, some of these bugs allowed attackers to gain significant privileges over the core system.
Apple Regularly Fixes Vulnerabilities
Moreover, five of these security updates said, “Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.” contained the warning. So even though you’ve probably done this many times this year (and to be honest, years before that), you need to update your phone once again, heeding Apple’s warning. For this you have to go to Settings > General > Software Update . On Mac, you can go to System Preferences > Software Update to update.
The company also offers an “extreme” security setting called Lockdown Mode , but most people won’t want to turn it on. Apple says Lockdown Mode will turn off many features that are particularly vulnerable to security vulnerabilities, and this is mostly for people who think they can be targeted by expert hackers, such as those hired by governments.
