All stars die, and our Sun is a star as we know it. Therefore, it is a known fact that at some point our Sun, which provides life to the Earth , will also die. When that happens, scientists say the Sun will destroy Earth, Mercury and Venus and devastate our entire Solar system .
A full vessel can only boil to the point where it eventually overflows, and the Sun is like a vessel of water, only boiling over billions of years. Right now our star is still young, producing tons of energy and acting as a source of light and heat that helps keep Earth alive, but one day, that same energy will cause the Sun to destroy Earth and other planets with it .
This is actually nothing new. Scientists predict that our Sun will “explode” for quite some time in the next five billion years. If it does, the Sun will destroy Mercury, Venus, and possibly Earth, says a new study that researchers presented to the Astrophysical Journal .
The Sun Has Already Completed Half Its Lifespan
However, the level of this destruction is unclear. The researchers ran several 3D hydrodynamic simulations to better understand how the Sun would destroy the Earth . This helped them better understand the range of possible outcomes after a Sun-like star swallows a planet. They found that this largely depends on the size of the planet and the current phase of the star.
Some say that because of Earth’s size, Mercury and Venus won’t be completely swallowed up as it likely would, but the Sun will still make Earth uninhabitable. This is because the Sun will lose all its hydrogen when it enters the red giant phase. When this happens, it will expand its border multiple times and swallow anything that gets in its way. As a result, our Sun could swallow the Earth at some point .
Depending on the final result, the swallowed planet may be pulled into a much narrower orbit that swallows it completely, or there may be the possibility of creating a new world due to changes.
Scientists believe our Sun has reached the middle of its lifespan, about 4.57 billion years . They also believe that the continued solar activity we experience is due to the fact that it will begin to die after 5 billion years .
