Thanks to the success of Walt Disney ‘s animated movie Pinocchio , the story of a wooden boy brought back to life has remained popular 139 years after Carlo Collodi published The Adventures of Pinocchio.

Netflix has its own Pinocchio movie from the director, Guillermo del Toro . This stop-motion animation has long been a passion project for del Toro. And you might say you know the story by looking at the trailer, but there are new secrets to be revealed .

Perhaps the biggest difference in Disney’s Pinocchio is the idea that Geppetto (David Bradley) was once a grieving father with his own son . The trailer hints that Pinocchio’s soul was borrowed from someone else, and that it was made from a tree that grew near the tomb of Geppetto’s late son.

If Pinocchio could stay out of trouble, getting a second chance to be a father would have been a dream come true for Geppetto . And Pinocchio’s famously loose relationship with reality makes his nose grow even longer.

Ewan McGregor narrates the trailer as Sebastian J. Cricket and stars Gregory Mann as Pinocchio , Christoph Waltz as Count Volpe, Tilda Swinton as the Turquoise-Haired Fairy , Finn Wolfhard as Candlewick , Ron Perlman as Podestà , and Cate Blanchett as Sprezzatura the Monkey . Tim Blake Nelson, Burn Gorman, and John Turturro also have undisclosed roles in the film.
