If you don’t know enough about NASA ‘s upcoming Artemis I mission and are curious about it, a new video released by NASA tells you everything you need to know about it in less than five minutes .
Titled Artemis I: We Are Ready , the video explains why we’re going to the moon again, and shows how the carefully planned Artemis I mission is expected to unfold, using impressive graphics. NASA’s Artemis program is about a new era of space exploration designed to send humans back to the moon, as well as send them to Mars and possibly beyond.
What Stages Will the Artemis I Mission Cover?
The uncrewed Artemis I mission will launch from Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Monday, August 29, and will be the first flight of NASA’s next-generation Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, the most powerful launch vehicle to date. It is also the first flight of the new Orion spacecraft, designed specifically for deeper space missions.
Orion’s journey will take six weeks and will include a lunar transit that will take him within just 62 miles of the lunar surface. Orion will then return to Earth and descend from the California coast.
After a successful Artemis I mission, it will follow the same route but will pave the way for Artemis II , which will have astronauts on board. Following this, Artemis III will send the first woman to the lunar surface in a mission that could take place as early as 2025.
With 8.8 million pounds of thrust launching the 98-metre-high SLS rocket into the air, Monday’s launch is predicted to be an impressive spectacle, and you can watch the entire event via NASA’s live stream.
