According to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple plans to delay the release of iPadOS 16 by a month . While iOS 16 is expected to launch in the usual launch window in September, Apple needs more time to perfect the iPadOS 16 experience with regard to Stage Manager.
The new report explains that Apple aims to release iPadOS 16 in October as it works to improve the new Stage Manager feature. It’s unclear whether Apple plans major changes to Stage Manager between now and its October launch. iPadOS 16 is currently in its fourth developer beta and is also available to public beta testers. So far we’ve seen minor improvements to Stage Manager during the beta testing period.
iPadOS 16 Beta Tests Contain Bugs
During beta testing, the system received criticism from some developers and users for bugs, a confusing interface, and incompatibility with most iPads . Changing the release launch date will also allow Apple to use more engineering resources to complete iOS 16, the software update that will ship with the iPhone 14 in September.
Bloomberg also notes that the one month delay of iPadOS 16 brings the release of the new OS version closer to the launch of a new iPad Pro . Apple is preparing a new iPad Pro with an M2 processor inside. This will also mean that iPadOS 16 is released closer to macOS Ventura or at the same time as macOS Ventura.
This isn’t the first time Apple has separated versions of iOS and iPadOS. In 2019, iOS 13 was released on September 19, and iPadOS 13 on September 24.
