While the whole world is still struggling with the coronavirus epidemic, new virus outbreaks continue to come without slowing down. This newly identified virus, which has infected dozens of people in China, may also be a harbinger of many dangers. This new “Langya” henipavirus, which was detected in Henan and Shandong provinces in the east of the country, has been detected in 35 people so far .
This new virus, which is thought to be transmitted from animals; It occurs in small rodent mammals from the same family as moles and hedgehogs. There have been many occasional cases of the Langya virus, which was first detected in humans in 2019 , but it is still being investigated whether it is contagious from person to person.
Chinese doctors state that in the past, the first case of this virus was detected in Shandong in January 2019 . They add that the following year, there was a cluster of 14 cases in Henan and Shandong.
No Death Detected Yet From Langya Virus
None of these new cases detected in China resulted in death. Most were seen in patients who had a mild recovery and after flu-like symptoms. The most common symptoms experienced by langya patients was fever. While almost all patients had a fever , 54% stated that they experienced fatigue, 50% cough, 50% anorexia, 46% muscle aches, and 38% nausea. While 35% of the patients experienced liver problems, 8% of them experienced disturbances in their kidney functions.
Experts have closely followed this new type of virus. For now, it is a matter of curiosity whether the virus will cause a new pandemic in the future.
