Do you know how often Google collects your browsing data? We know the tech giant collects this information every time we use its search, sign in to its apps, or browse YouTube, but it may surprise you that you can learn what almost every click leads to .

If you are using Google’s apps or browsing in Chrome, this data sharing with Google is more than you think . If this data sharing seems too exaggerated to you and you are wondering what data is being transferred, you can check it yourself using developer Bert Hubert ‘s new free app called GoogleTeller .

GoogleTeller emits a short “beep” every time your data is sent to one of Google’s public IP addresses. The app only works on Linux desktops for now, but Hubert has released a video demonstrating the software so you can see the results for yourself.

Those little beeps you hear aren’t Hubert’s keyboard or mouse. GoogleTeller logs every transaction made to Google servers .

The fact that GoogleTeller is currently Linux-specific may upset Windows and Mac users, but the main point here should not be forgotten. Google collects the vast majority of your data. You don’t necessarily need an app to understand this, but these types of apps reveal the reality of the situation even more clearly.
