The drinking water problem is among the biggest problems both today and in the future. Only 1.2% of the water on our planet is known as potable water. Scientists at MIT , who have been working on converting sea water to potable water by purifying it for many years , have made a device that can perform the purification process with a single button.
The device, which has a portable installation, gets its power from the solar panel. The new purification device provides the opportunity to convert sea water into drinkable water with a single button after the setup is installed.

Most portable desalination systems work on the principle that water passes through filters. But this new device uses electricity to pull salt particles out of the water . The device, which uses the ion concentration polarization method, was produced as a result of 10 years of work. The method, called ICP, cannot achieve 100% success in removing all salt particles from the water. To prevent this, the researchers included a method called electrodialysis in the system and achieved remarkable success in producing healthy and drinkable water.
The device, which achieved great success in the first tests, promises great hope for the future. The researchers responsible for the project think that the newly produced device can be used in the maritime sector, to meet the drinking water of people living on remote islands, and in African countries with limited access to drinking water.
