Problems related to technology such as the exchange rate, which has increased regularly in recent years and the worldwide chip crisis , have made it difficult to buy a smartphone in our country. Taxes applied to technological devices that serve daily use, such as telephones, have increased their prices to unreachable points. Suffering from these problems, most Turkish citizens turned to unregistered clone phones.

Clone phones mean phones that are not registered in Turkey and that are brought from abroad in various ways. Phones that are brought into our country without permission in various ways can be used easily by copying the IMEI address of the old phones to the new phones. Mustafa Kemal Turnacı , President of the Mobile Communication Tools and Information Technologies Businessmen’s Association, which has been working on the subject , stated that unregistered phones in our country cause a big tax loss.

3.5 Million Clones of 10 Million Phones!

Pointing out that the unregistered phone market in our country is increasing day by day, Turnacı stated that 35 % of the annual phone sales of 10 million are clone phones . According to Mustafa Kemal Turnacı, Turkey suffered a tax loss of over 5 billion TL due to clone phones .

On the other hand, pointing out that one of the main reasons for users to turn to clone phones is the installment restrictions on technology products that came into force in recent years , Turnacı said, “There are 12 installments for products under 5 thousand TL in the mobile technology sector , and only 3 installments for products above this amount . Inflation is also taken into account. “When we keep this in mind, the purchasing power of the consumer has dropped a lot. He resorts to unregistered means to buy the phone he needs. If the installment restriction does not stretch, we will sacrifice the mobile technology industry for the unregistered. To prevent this, the installment restriction needs to be lifted.” said.

MOSİBAD President Mustafa Kemal Turnacı said that one of the measures that can be taken against the clone phone market may be IMEI signal restriction . According to Turnacı, the cancellation process of the IMEI numbers of the phones, which cannot be received for the current 7 years , should be reduced to 2 years .
