Chevrolet launched its 2023 Colorado mid-size pickup truck on Thursday. The accent of the pickup truck is completely new. Colorado (and its GMC Canyon twin) lagged behind in the midsize pickup class. But now it’s back with an innovative design.

When the Chevy Colorado goes on sale in the first half of 2023, it will come in five trim levels. The Basic Work Truck (WT) will be the entry point. And from there, customers can also browse the Colorado LT, Trail Boss, Z71 and ZR2 models.

The last three have varying degrees of off-road capability and the ZR2 is the extreme. The Z71 promises a much more rugged look than anything else. The Trail Boss , on the other hand, has 2 inches of suspension lift, a 3-inch wider front track and 32-inch off-road tires.

The ZR2 raises the bar with a 3-inch suspension lift and sophisticated Multimatic DSSV shock absorbers. We have more details on what sets this off-road gear apart in our Colorado ZR2 debut story .

Many trucks offer under-floor storage in the bed. But Chevy promises a similar solution inside the Colorado’s tailgate . With the tailgate down, you can open a compartment that is 45 inches wide and 4 inches deep. It can also be used as waterproof and cooler.

A Great Power

This is also standard on the ZR2 and optional on other Colorado models. Other functional bed ends include eight standard attachment points with the ability to add nine more, and a semi-open function perfect for carrying taller objects.

Every 2023 Chevy Colorado model will be powered by a 2.7-liter turbocharged I4 engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission . In addition , rear-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is optional on WT and LT equipment; Trail Boss, Z71 and ZR2 models come standard with 4WD .

Depending on the trim level, the Colorado has five different driving modes . Pull/Pull changes transmission shift points and throttle response. It also makes further adjustments to the Off-Road powertrain and traction control. Terrain mode, on the other hand, is designed for low-speed rock creep.

This model also has a sunroof. A key feature of the Colorado’s cabin is the standard 11.3-inch central touchscreen, which runs an updated version of Chevy’s easy-to-use infotainment software. Meanwhile, there are custom pages, a terrain-specific display (altitude, roll, slope, etc.) , and built-in Google apps for maps, music, and more . On top of that, all Colorados come with an 8-inch digital gauge cluster.

The 2023 Chevy Colorado will be produced at General Motors’  factory in Wentzville, Missouri  . Production is expected to begin in early 2023. Chevy says it will release final pricing and fuel economy data closer to then.
